What is beef jerky?
Beef jerky is dried, seasoned beef. Lean beef is cut into thin strips, marinated, then dried slowly at a low temperature until most of the water is gone. With the water out, the protein is packed tight and the meat keeps for months in a sealed pack without a fridge.
It is a classic American snack. Slim Boody makes it in Cairo with American smokehouse methods and local seasoning, in three flavours: Hot Sweet Brisket Rub, Salt, Pepper & Garlic and Teriyaki.
How much protein is in beef jerky?
A lot for its weight: Slim Boody jerky has 21 to 23 g of protein in a 50 g pack. That is more than the same weight of roast chicken breast, because drying takes the water out. Gram for gram:

Is beef jerky healthy?
It is a high-protein snack, and some flavours are very lean: Salt, Pepper & Garlic has 3.5 g of fat and no sugar in a 50 g pack. The sweet flavours have some sugar (6 g in Hot Sweet Brisket Rub, 8.3 g in Teriyaki per pack).
Like all jerky, it is salty: 1.5 to 1.9 g of salt per pack. The World Health Organization recommends adults eat less than 5 g of salt a day, so one pack is roughly a third of that. Enjoy it as a snack, drink water, and if you watch your salt for health reasons, ask your doctor. WHO

It depends on the beef. Slim Boody uses halal beef only.
How long does beef jerky last?
Sealed, Slim Boody jerky keeps 3 months from production at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight. Once you open it, keep the pack closed in the fridge and finish it within 5 days. The QR code on the back of every pack shows its production and expiry date.
